we stayed in Sirince. An antique village in the mountains outside of Selcuk. A 19th Century experience in small town Turkey. Bring good shoes for steep hills and uneven ground. Good natural foods from local farms. Expect an authentic experience.

I’m not sure why anyone from away would come to Selcuk unless they were there to see the antique ruins of Ephesus. That is certainly why we came. If you are in Turkey- I suggest it is a must see.
Ephesus is one of the most excavated sites in the world. It is humbling to see how much as a civilized culture we have forgotten- or forgot and have had to rediscover over the millenniums.
That said, Selcuk had decent dining options, and other attractions like the Ephesus Museum (where the artifacts are housed), and the Saint John Basilica which are fantastic. Both are blocks from the Akanthus hotel (which I reviewed separately and highly recommend .

Amazing place in order to visit not only Ephesus but other ancient greek cities nearby too. The city in itself has also many touristic spots in itself (like the lonely column that remains ot the ancient Artemision).

We visited Selcuk for one night to visit Ephesus and a friend staying locally. The town was lovely to walk through and easy to navigate. Ephesis was easy to get to, but the tour guide options were more challenging to navigate (beforehand).
There are a couple of beautiful restaurants, so do your research.
The taxis are a drag. Most have fixed fees but unclear what they include. One time we paid 100TL to go from Selcuk to the hotel, and the next taxi driver charged us 400TL to return. It was a 10-minute drive. Be aware that if you order a taxi to Ephesus, they may include the 'whole trip', whatever that means...
Ephesus is worth the visit if you're into ancient history or faith-based movements. You will want to get the audio guide, a guided tour or look up a DIY one online.
The Ephesus museum can be done in 45 - 1 hour if you are not a details person. Lots of well-curated objects but narrative and contextualising could do with some work. You might want to brush up on your periods before visiting.

Selcuk is a lovely place to visit.
Selcuk is a lovely place to visit. Close to many interesting and nice places to see.
We ate mainly at local restaurants and also bought freshly baked borek from the bakery across the street from Ephesus Centrum.
We walked around and travelled by rented car to places further. The bus station is centrally situated so using it should be quite easy.
The only thing I would change on a next visit, is the length of time - I will stay for longer than 4 nights as there is so much more things I would like to see and do.
This hotel is located in the center of lovely town Selçuk, a-few-minute walk from train station, restaurants, and multiple local shops. Our room was a decent size with a balcony and provided all we needed. We were offered a simple yet hot breakfast at reasonable price before starting our day tour. All hotel staff were friendly and helpful with our inquiries. This hotel is a good deal, considering costs and convenience. We definitely love to stay here again if we plan to visit Selçuk and Ephesus next time.
Felt at home from the moment we arrived. Beautiful hotel situated in a quiet cobbled street with outstanding views.
We received a warm welcome from the friendly staff and Argos the hotel pooch who took a shine to us and even tried to sleep in our room. We were given a free upgrade to the honeymoon room, immaculate and with great views from the bay window.
Food was great too, we had lamb shanks in the evening and a huge Turkish breakfast. I'd go as far to say this is our favourite hotel in Turkey.
The beds are actually so comfortable! So much better than others we encountered during our 2-week Turkey trip. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, offering an upgraded room and an earlier breakfast than normal as we were planning to check out early. Breakfast was a delicious spread of classic Turkish delicacies, served in a beautiful back garden. The location is within walking distance to historical sights and great restaurants and shopping, but on a relaxing street away from the noise.
We couldn’t have asked for a better location and a more helpful staff. We came in without an itinerary and the staff (especially Bugra) were more than willing to help. They provided hotel transfer with less than a few hours notice, scheduled a private tour the next day of the top sites in Ephesus, and organized a day trip to Pamukkale. The venue is lovely, beds are comfortable, and the provided breakfast was incredible. Will definitely stay again next time we visit the area.
One of the best stays during our long Turkey trip. The location is beautiful you almost feel like you do not want to leave the premises, the pool is inviting and clean. The apartment is clean and we'll though out, it has everything you might need. The breakfast was enough to feed a football team and as a bonus: my kid and I could not get enough of the friendly dog. Come and see for yourself!
The hotel is located in Selçuk which is very convenient if you are planning to visit Ephesus. Also it may be ideal to spend a night while traveling with car to/from İzmir airport. My room (number 6) was quite big, had a very nice decoration with a big bed and a nice balcony. Hotel has a terrace with a magnificent view which you can take a drink and relax, loved the atmosphere.
This place is extremely well decorated. Inner walls are covered with colorful plates and rugs, and also very nice tiles. Hotel has a very nice little pool between its two main buildings. Garden’s roof is covered vines. Staff is very helpful, arranged a great guide for our Ephesus visit. Don’t think further. This is the place to stay in Selçuk.
We loved staying at ANZ Guest House. Harry and his son were fantastic hosts. The location was perfect, near restaurants, buses to Ephesus and the train station. The room was basic but met all of our expectations. Oh, and of course the included breakfast was awesome! We'll definitely be telling our friends to stay here when they visit Turkey.
One of the best places on our itinerary! Postcard perfect little house, tastefully decorated with local crafts. The best view. Incredible breakfast. The town itself is definitely one of the highlights of Turkey. Make sure to take a walk to Mathematical village if you have a couple of hours to spare.
A very nice hotel. As it is in Turkey, very good, tasty and huge breakfasts consisting of fresh ingredients. Although the rooms are not huge, they are in quite sufficient for 2-3 day stays. Great view of the city and sunsets :)
I also recommend to families with children!
Urkmez hotel was like a home, the personal is the kindest, the position is great and there's a cozy plan where you can have a great homemade breakfast and always feel fine to have a pause in the terrace. Don't miss the chance, it was my best choice in Turkey!
Breakfast was amazing, a lot of different dishes, the best traditional turkish brekfast I've eaten in Turkey. Room was absolutely new, and very interesting shower in the bathromm with lot's of dirrefent moder to use. People were very friendly and helpful.
Amazing breakfast, everything handmade, organic and bought locally. Best breakfast we had in Turkey!!
The rooms were beautifully decorated, comfy beds and hot showers. Beautiful historical house. The owner was very helpful and kind.
Excellent location and staff members attention
, they were very kindly and warm people, they helped us a lot with information, tips and suggestions over Selcuk and Ephesus. The hotel is near bus terminal and St. Jhon catedral.
An absolutely charming hotel. The staff took so much care to create a delightful experience. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was exceptional - the best we had in Turkeye!
The hotel staff are very nice and helpful, you can see Artemis Temple from the window :)
The location is close to Efeses ancient city, about 10 min drive.
Little Italy in Turkey. very nicely maintained. the view is “eye candy”. very good restaurant- we were pleasantly surprised with food taste and service.
